Frequently asked questions.

 FAQs

  • We can provide a grocery delivery volunteer sponsor for those who cannot get their groceries on their own.

The sponsor will check in with kūpuna once a week via phone call and ask if they need any food, supplies or medication.  The sponsor will then shop for these items every other week, deliver them to kūpuna.  Kūpuna will reimburse their sponsor for grocery costs.

We ask that kūpuna only use this service for necessities and try to request items in bulk so we can reduce the amount of trips needed by their sponsor.

Sponsors are not allowed to pick up any type of narcotic medication.

    • We have a phone buddy program - we can provide a phone buddy who calls the kupuna once a week to talk story.

    • We have a pen pal program - we can match the kupuna with a high school student who will write letters back and forth with the kupuna.

    • Kūpuna can participate in virtual classes online using Zoom - we offer accessible yoga (yoga for all levels), ukulele classes, and will soon offer a social hour

  • Our Kūpuna’s services are free for kūpuna, and all volunteers are giving their time and energy to help the community. The volunteer is responsible for providing a full receipt of the items purchased to the kupuna. The kupuna is responsible for reimbursing the volunteer for the cost of the items at the time of delivery.

If kūpuna wish to thank Our Kūpuna for the service, they can donate. Donations help cover the cost of operations.

  • All volunteers must complete our Sponsor A Kupuna Application Form, where they are required to upload a picture of their driver’s license and proof of auto insurance - both documents must be active at date of submission. You may also submit documentation to us via text (808-400-7194) or email (aloha@ourkupuna.com).

We run a background check on all of our volunteers who are engaging with kūpuna or handling personal information.

Lastly, volunteers are asked to review our procedures and sign our waiver.

Our Kūpuna follows state guidelines regarding the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic - we may update our safety protocols as needed to keep our kūpuna and volunteers safe.

  • We take the health of our kūpuna and volunteer sponsors very seriously. You can find our pickup and delivery safety procedures here which our volunteers are required to follow.

  • Our Kūpuna must screen and validate every volunteer sponsor before they can begin assisting a kupuna. We require a photo ID, signed volunteer waiver, and background check for each volunteer. We welcome your friend/family member to sub for you as long as they register with us first. If you are unable to complete a delivery and you do not know someone you can sub for you, please let us know so we can find a temporary replacement.
